Les deux premiers jours Sam et moi étions sur la course, nous étions loin de notre maison. Je me sentais impuissante, especially given the fact that so many of our friends and workers were being arrested. I realized that unless I knew, moment by moment, what was happening, my chances of coming out of this intact, both emotionally and physically, were slim. I needed to be close to area where the events occurred and needed to watch, and hear, the actions of the authorities. I also needed to do my own investigation, since the police only seemed to be investigating my whereabouts. My safety is contingent on the truth being discovered. I today announced on NBC Television that I am offering a $25,000 reward for the capture of the person or persons responsible for Mr. Faul’s murder.

After two days we returned to the house, in disguise, and I began my watch.

The first day I colored my full beard and my hair light grey- almost white. I darkened the skin of my face, neck and hands carefully with shoe polish and put on an LA Saints baseball cap with the brim facing backwards and tufts of the front of my hair sticking out unkempt through the band. I stuffed my cheeks with chewed bubble gum stuck to the outside of my upper and lower molars – making my face appear much fatter. I darkened and browned my front teeth. I stuffed a shaved down tampon deep into my right nostril and died the tip dark brown – giving my nose an awkward, lopsided, disgusting appearance. I put on a pair of ragged brown pants with holes patched and darned. I wore an old, ragged long sleeve shirt. I donned an old Guatemalan style sarape and toted a bag containing a variety of Guatemalan woven goods. I adjusted my posture so that I appeared a good six inches shorter than my actual height and slowly walked up and down the beach with a pronounced limp, pushing an old single speed bicycle and peddling my wares to tourists and reporters using a broken English with a heavy Spanish accent. On my second day, while peddling small wooden carvings, I nearly sold a dolphin carving to an Associated Press reporter standing at the edge of my dock. He was pulled away from my enticement by an urgent phone call.

Among the people I spoke with that day was the caretaker at Mr. Faul’s house. The police had stated that Mr. Faul’s housekeeper discovered the body. His caretaker told me that Faul did not have a housekeeper. He himself discovered the body he said. I found this interesting and filed it away as a piece of data that might help at some point. Why would the police lie about this? Lies always have a reason.

Then I watched the police dig up my four dogs that had been poisoned and buried. They cut off the heads and re-buried the bodies. I found this curious. The dogs had been dead too long for an effective autopsy, considering it would be performed in a Third World country with limited access to laboratory resources. What was this all about?

I watched the police search my residence 7 fois. At one point I got too close and was angrily ordered to go away. I did so while muttering “Pendejos!” loud enough for the officers to hear. Every search was allegedly performed in order to find me. On two occasions, cependant, the police carried large duffle type bags into the premises and left with the bags appearing nearly empty. Perhaps the bags contained their lunch and they ate while searching. Perhaps not.

On subsequent days using different disguises, I did the same general thing, one day selling tamales and burritos that I had purchased wholesale from a real vendor, on another pretending to be a drunk German tourist with a partially bandaged face and wearing speedo swimming trunks and a distasteful, oversized Hawaiian shirt and yelling loudly at anyone who would listen – “Leck mich um ausch!". À 67 years of age it was quite a spectacle.

What I discovered is that the police are more concerned with finding me than catching Mr. Faul’s killer. Rumors are rife. The most enduring and frequently passed rumor is that the killing was punishment for a soured real estate transaction. I did not know, until I heard the rumor that Mr. Faul was working for a local real estate company. No-one seems to know the true details of the transaction or the parties involved, but the police could easily discover the details if they were so inclined.

I also was able to observe the machinations of the press. They stayed mostly on my long boat dock and behaved themselves, but occasionally they would nab one by passer or another and ask questions. Mostly they waited for me to be caught on camera. Yesterday I got to watch Amy bring NBC to film the police illegally (nouveau) search my property. NBC used my boat service (Coastal Express) so I would like to thank them for the business. They also sat for a while just offshore doing God knows what. I watched perplexed and eventually they went back to town.

I will continue my investigations, since the police seem to have defaulted on this obligation. I have offered a reward. If anyone has any information, please give it directly to me. I will publish it here on this blog first, and then provide it to the police. That way it cannot just conveniently disappear if it is evidence that the Government finds distasteful.

P.S. No-one at the house, including the staff, know that I am nearby. If the police are reading this, do not randomly round up everyone for harboring a fugitive. S'il vous plaît.

    Dear John, i’ve been keeping up with all the updates both from the news reporters and reading your blog. It’s about time someone stood up for himself and fight for what he believes is right. The Belizean government is approaching this matter inappropriately and the actions they are taking is just plain inhumane. Who could be so cruel to dig up and behead deceased canines? It’s just not proper procedures, and keep in mind this is a third world country. We have VERY few forensic investigators here, and they probably wouldn’t know how to analyze and scan finger prints. I’m pretty sure they just want to frame you. They may want to claim that the bullets from the dogs head matches the one that killed Faul, mais bien sûr,, this is bullshit without any hard evidence.
    Your claims about the GSU are in fact justifiable. The GSU are beyond crooked officers doing the P.M’s dirty work. I’m totally against this form of government and its unfortunate that your involved in it. D'abord, those duffel bags that the officers were carrying in her house were probably tech devices to monitor your house when u make your next appearance. They want to catch u red handed.
    The ridiculous disguises that you’ve been using is working but like what others said, you’re just gonna make yourself look more guilty. Your best bet is to get out of the country, at least off the island. It’s only a matter of time before the PM gets more desperate and start planting false evidence around your house and will want to extort you to surrender yourself to the belize government. The first step was the media trying to draw you out, the next step is infilatrating and planting shit in your house, then before you know it they’ll comb through your property, trying to find charges giving them reason to go after you full force. I believe the GSU were the ones who poisioned your dogs, shot Faull, and is trying to frame you for it as a means to get you out. And it aint no coincidence that this happened right after all the whiney complaints form your neighbours. Don’t give up, gather your evidence and speak out until you have the PM by the balls and blow this entire thing over! Bonne chance.

      Il est 2 AMÉRICANO. investigators in Belize, who are assisting with the forensics & the investigation. The government is not about to harm John with all of the media attention, along with the assistance that the United States gives to their country.
      But time rolls on & the story is fading from the spotlight, so running & hiding for too much longer will only escalate the danger & present an opportunity for them to make an example of you, which could be done in a number of ways. Call the State Department. Do something!

    you are doing what so many expats do, in the Philippines, Thaïlande, Indonesia and many other places, settle down in the sun, enjoy the trappings of the country and eventually want to integrate into the local community.

    Problems is third world countries and the local community see kindness as a form of weakness, to be taken advantage of.

    Once the expat has woken up that he or she is loved for materialistic worth and not friendship the parties over. Time to move on.

    At this stage I believe you have been left out in the sun too long and you are trying to wag the dog. The local authorities have their ways, its not the way of the West and will never be.

    As the philosophers discovered, the meaning of life has many answers but not all answer suit the life we want or got.

    Live and let live, leave Belize to the locals, rester en sécurité, head out to greener pastures, it sounds like its too personal, step out of the forrest and see the trees.

And I also went to the Belize police website and suggested that David Henderson the police commisioner be removed from office. And yes I did recomend John McAfee as an honorable replacement. Who better if they are worried about the computor system security. Or if they need to find someone on the run? Bonne chance John.

    Seems to me that you’re just tempting fate by putting yourself in these potentially dangerous situations. If it were the US and you could gather evidence covertly, you might have a case. The fact is that you have a lot of money and a third world country out for it. If the tunnel vision investigation doesnt prove it i dunno what does. I honestly do not know what your best move should be, all i know is it’s not what you are doing. I wish you luck and i hope you find the best course of action. Just remember, you’re worth more to them guilty than innocent.

    You have managed to ridicule the Belizian government and they will get you one way or another. The courts don’t function out there and the Judiciary is far from independent.

    Just wanted to ad that if there is anything I can do for you from the US please let me know. You can mail me, call what ever you prefer…I have no tolerance for these third world countries treating people the way they do. I am also worried about the remaining dogs, one reporter stated they appeared to be basically being left to die. Is anyone caring for them? Think I will jump on a plane and care for the dogs lol..,seems as though you do have a handful of supporters that truly are pulling for you. John, just make sure you are thinking everything through rationally. Can’t imagine being in your position guilty or not, and I did state that I now feel as though this whole mess is a conspiracy. I still urge you to rally your team and turn yourself in for questioning. Put this damn thing to rest… Don’t let them take your life

          A point about the dogs only. They are now free to roam more than before and are pretty intimidating. I live nearby and tried to get by yesterday and the one guy at the compound apologised when they charged down the dock barking at me and assured me they wouldn’t bite, but as a dog lover it’s still intimidating. I’m sure a non-dog person / tourist would be pretty scared.

          Par ailleurs, they are looking weary, thin and neglected. One of them came down to where I live the day before and I fed him, he used to be beautiful but is now thin and has ticks all around his eyes. Is it possible to do anything to ensure the wellbeing of them so they are fed, given water and taken care of? Saga?

        John is a real dog lover and he is innocent! Pitbulls are also among some of the best dogs in the world, I was born and raised around pitbulls and I never been bit!

    Salut, John! I finally found your blog! I’ve been trying to figure out where I could contact you.. I’ve been following this story and I’d like to share a little fact with you, that most people here who are watching and keeping tabs on this crazy story….are just shaking their heads. I would’ve totally thought that the Belizian government and police would be more civilized than this..I mean.. they even dug up your DOGS! So sorry about that one, man.. that’s so heinous.. But the rest of this story… holy crap, this would make one hell of a book to read or watch on film (can’t wait to see the graphic novel!). The clever disguise for reconnaissance, the wrongful arrest of your friends and staff, having your HOME searched seven damn times.. My roommate says that he got the chance to meet you back in the 90′s at some ‘nerd con’ in California and said that you were a totally nice guy with a firm handshake and a product with great branding… Restez forts, man this’ll all be over soon..

    M.. McAfee, come in from the cold. I urge you to use a lawyer dream team comprised of UDP and PUP elements as well as US criminal defense lawyers and QC appellate barristers. Some could misconstrue evading police as evidence of guilt. Bonne chance.

    My father spent a good portion of his life in Souh America where he would tell me stories of how the police and the goverment did things thier way in lew of investigations and such,hint hint.If I were John I wouldnt come out of hiding till they actually started to consider other outlets then himself for this murder.Or atleast tell the public why they are so intrested in talking to Mr McAfee without releasing to much of what they have.Did they find a murder weapon,his blood,shoes prints,quoi? Till then John, heres to hoping you get treated fairly through this whole ordeal,however it all ends.Good Luck

    I cannot help but wonder if Faul poisoned the dogs, and then McAfee punished him with his Luger. It makes much more sense than a government conspiracy. Cela dit, I offer no judgments on McAfee either way, and everyone should be offered their right to due process in the world. I’m sure you’re still probably hiding in the compound you built, but your story is nonetheless intriguing. If an AP reporter comes forward to corroborate your dolphin carving story, I’d imagine we have to take everything you are saying very seriously.

      A murdering Mcafee OR a government conspiracy are not the only 2 options though. It could be a third party involved in a feud with the victim that we don’t know about.

      It makes no sense for a guy in Mcafee’s position, with much to lose, to kill a human being in retaliation for the death of dogs. Without any proof that the guy even was involved in killing the dogs in the first place. That would be insane.

      It only makes sense if you suspect Mcafee was fucked up beyond reason on bath salts, and did not think of the consequences. Which is why I think the drug aspect of this story should be discussed in a blog post soon. It’s a critical part of the story.

        Stuffmongerfan: I have been writing these posts for three days now. I have seen the writing output from other people while they were on drugs. Perhaps you have too. Do my words, mes constructions ou mes trains de la pensée de quelque manière indiquent un esprit embrouillé de drogue? Si ce n'est pas, let’s drop this absurd hypothesis. J'ai été un fervent adversaire de médicaments pour 35 ans. My record shows this clearly. I am not on bath salts. This is the eleventh time I have answered this question on this blog. Future posters: All future repeats of this question will not be posted due to the allready heavy message traffic and the need to keep the discussions uncluttered.

          Convenu. While it’s easy to attribute the “government is out to get me” angle to paranoia, especially when watching from thousands of miles away, the majority of Mr. Mcafee’s posts have been quite insightful, and do not seem to be the writings of one all whacked out on hallucinogens.

          Je, pour une, have no problem believing that the GSU or local authorities pose a serious threat to Mr. Mcafee’s life, as I’ve seen first-hand how outsiders, particularly wealthy outsiders, have been treated in other expat communities abroad.

          Non, in any written or video content from you that I’ve seen, since or prior to this ordeal, you have seemed clear-headed and articulate.

          Cependant, that doesn’t mean much. Drugs do not permanently affect someone’s intelligence or ability to look “normale”. Plenty of people go on a bender over the weekend and are back in the conference room on Monday, and their colleagues never suspect a thing.

          Re: your anti-drugs record. I think I’ve read more about you than the average person, yet I’m not aware of it. I don’t doubt it exists, my point is, shed some light on it. Explain how you feel about the issue. Explain the prank. This is central to establishing your innocence and being taken seriously in my opinion. Le “sels de bain” aspect of this has grabbed people’s imagination, for better or worse. This is what people talk about in forums when your story is linked to, much more than the Belize corruption or even the murder itself. You can’t just waive that away, IMO.

          • Have explained the prank twice in earlier posts. The Wired article explained my anti-drug stance in detail. I have repeatedly stated I do not do drugs and am seriously opposed to drugs. I cannot continue to to repeat myself forever. If you wish to do more research, Google “Mcafee Molokai Drugs”. In there you will find out that I was run out of town for trying to stop the sale of amphetamines on an island wholly dependent on the drug trade for its economy. I am now moving on to other topis.

    Since reading about you earlier this year. I have been vicariously living through you and you’re adventure like reading a best selling novel. I’m pulling for you to come out of this unscathed and return to you’re life of rebellion and the pursuit of happiness.

    Being a dog lover, I cannot fathom the pain you went through to see your four babies die. Their deaths is a real crime.

    My sincerest condolences, and I hope that you get through this unscathed so that you can replace your puppies with others.

      I echo that, I recently lost my dog and am still distraught after a number of weeks, I can’t imagine the pain of losing four and then the rest of this nightmare.

      I hope it is all resolved soon, but in the meantime as Hakim Bey said “Dress up. Leave a false name. Be legendary”

    Brilliant disguise! Thank you for finally expressing what it is that you want. Previous posts just seemed to be attacks on the government& police with no clear objective or purpose.

    I have the perfect congressman for you to contact, Steve Cohen, 9th District State Senator from TN. I’ve known him since I was 17. I don’t want to go into all of the reasons, but he is smart, aggressive, connected, & an attorney.This is right down his alley & he is just perfect. I have his home, office, & cell phone numbers. Will you contact him? He could care less about all the bath salt & young girl references. He is a good person & would be a great mediator, sounding board, & advisor for you. Just let me know & I will email his info….and please forgive my previous rants. Condemnation before investigation. Mes excuses.

    The sad thing is… The murder would not have gotten the attention it has if you were not involved.

    The story has already ran it’s cycle. Those who would profit from telling their version of your story better cash out quick.

    My intuition tells me you are probably not guilty of murder though I think you may be guilty of poor judgement on some things and naivete in others.

    The taking of the dog heads was likely to see if the the gun you used on them was the same used on Mr. Faull. Nothing more sinister than that. If not for any other reason than they have to at least give the appearance of investigating the murder.

    The media is painting you in a terrible light. People are judging you based on their own world view and what they are told. You need to live to fight another day. Please be safe.

    p.s. Your best bet with phone issues is to realize that the real threat is s/th called a ‘Stingray’ tower, NOT your actual phone.

    A stingray acts as a mobile antenna, and it captures nearby phone signals and tricks them into believing it is a base tower, when in fact it is a phony.

    They are illegal to use in the US, but cops here use them all the time, but every time a case goes to trial to prove it, they drop the case. There was one recently about a credit card scammer: the fed dropped the case when they realized they would have to ‘out’ there own illegal activities.

    Alors, a stingray is a default roving wiretap, and it captures every signal in its vicinity, hunting for your voice, and other solid identifiers, like a phone number, or serial, etc.

    Your safest bet is to continue to buy some burner phones, and sell them or give them away after a month or so.There is good reason to give them away–use your imagination…

    Pull the batteries when not in use. Talk only as long as you need to.

    Aussi, changing your appearance is over-rated–because if they really wanted you? They would have had you by now…. By now they have your DNA anyways, so be cautious with cups;-)

    The thing you need to worry about is your fingerprints–and if you weren’t there, there will be no prints–and if you were, there had better be a good excuse why they are there.

    If you trully want the madness to end and Turn yourself in the United States and your friends, if you care, will be left alone. Unlike others I am telling what you need to do and not telling what you want to hear. You have the resources to insure your safe travel and it will end the drama. Then you can go live and hide where ever you like.

    John–While you are doing these things, have you taken the time to preserve what you have discovered ‘ forensically’? Your word against the words of lying pigs is no good alone.

    You need to ‘forensically’ document what you are seeing and finding. Get a camera ( those head/hat /sunglasses cameras work pretty good), take some pictures–footprints in the sand, the actual graves, the faces and badges of the pigs who do the investigations.

    Hire locals with some degree of respectability to conduct interviews with the associates of those pigs–dig up some real dirt, not just sand.

    But I know what you are going through–I have been there myself, right here in the good ol’ USA. The police power has gone overboard, et vous (nous) need to prove that, with solid EVIDENCE against them, and their phony cases.

      He did shoot his dogs; they were poisoned and suffering so he shot them according to Joshua Davis’ article in Wired.

It will never leave my head. But Gregg Faul could not have been responsible. He had dogs and loved them. A dog lover could never poison anyone’s dog, under any circumstances.

          I still think it was the GSU who poisoned the dogs and also shot Faull. And no matter what they find, they’ll say the bullets in the dogs match the bullets in Faull. They’re just going through the motions. And while they could have dug up the dogs and taken them to examine them later returning to re-bury, they purposely did the unthinkable by beheading them as further pay back. Maybe to freak you out and get you to come out of hiding. I predict whatever they’re doing to your house is only going to escalate in an attempt to draw you out.

          In the wired article I read you stated a few of the poisoned dogs had already “died” was there a reference of you having to putting them down I missed? That would make me feel better. Because the initial wired article I read completely implies that they died of the poising and that you did not dispatch them.

          Afterward you stated “Then I watched the police dig up my four dogs that had been poisoned and buried. They cut off the heads and re-buried the bodies. I found this curious.”

          Did you talk about having to put the dogs down before this? Because you are a smart man and it seems like you would know exactly why they cut the heads off and that it would be for ballistics info. Just wondered if you were keeping this info quite or I missed it because it almost sounds like you disclosed the bit about putting them down after they were dug up and the heads removed.

    Good luck and never give up! I have been considering moving that way and becoming a neighbor after a trip last year…now I am not so sure!

      Mike, I did move to a central american country for 6 months every year and all and more is true about what John is saying. I often think about selling all and moving to the keys or other place but have not yet. The intellect in these countries is totally different than what we are used to. If you are not prepared to do battle every day and win some and lose some, then don’t go.

    Hey John … I certainly admire you for your creativity to find answers, cependant, you have to be more careful. This is not safe what you are doing.

    Now that you have shown some cards in your hand … they are going to be watching anything and everything that could be watching them like you describe.

    The bottom line is … you need to stay out of the custody of the Belize Authority until Gregory Faull’s murder is being looked at from another angle. Ouais, the digging up of the dogs is $%#ed up.

            John, Get out if possible. I am easy to find in Florida and my husband is a criminal defense lawyer of 30 ans. We will give you a port in the storm. I do not want to write your story or for you to retain my husband. Just because someone is paranoid, does not mean they are wrong. Innocent until proven guilty is being lost on you. We question the Belize justice system being fair for you, since a conviction on anything could mean the government gets all your assets in Belize.           • It appears you want to stay in Belize to try and solve this murder and get your friends released. I understand. Cependant, I think you could do more for them and yourself from America. It is also possible that getting out of Belize to America is now impossible… unless you can devise a way to drive a car across the Gulf of Mexico & Caribbean Sea…then manage to park under my street light. Should you figure that out, I am home, (but usually working in my bathrobe.) My husband is willing to help you try and sort this mess out.         @OriginalShyne on Twitter. I believe his father was once the Prime Minister of Belize but the story was Shyne & his mother had to flee the country. I don’t recall the back story on his fathers demise though.
        For those who do not know who Shyne is, he was deported to Belize after doing a 10 year prison sentence in the US due to him shooting during the infamous Jennifer Lopez (then J LO) and Sean “Puff/Puff Daddy/P.Diddy/Diddy” Combs New Years Eve (?) night club ordeal. Eh bien….qui & Sean Combs paying off witnesses to lie and well, just doing similarly sheisty things that Sean Combs does.
        Oh and yes, I am sure no one cares about this. That is all…LOL
