I am reposting an older post of Mr. McAfee’s and have added additional data from the files as supporting evidence. I am doing this because I feel it is necessary to dispel certain pre-disposed attitudes in the mind of the press and the public before a proper understanding of events can occur.
The Government has portrayed Mr. Mcafee as paranoid. So has the press. “Why armed guards?” is the government’s question. “What on earth does he have to be afraid of. Belize is a safe country and no-one needs to be afraid of anything”. ” M.. McAfee is bonkers”, declared the Prime Minister. M.. McAfee has declared otherwise. You must decide, in this first series of posts , where the truth lies. The previous post gave evidence of danger on the mainland. This one will give evidence of danger on the island of San Pedro, where Mr. McAfee also has residences.

Approximately two months ago Mr. McAfee left his house, by boat, to go spend the night at his condo (Ocean Aire) about four miles south of his primary residence. He frequently changed his location because he felt threatened and believed it was safer if few people knew his whereabouts. As he was leaving Mr. McAfee watched one of his security guards on the dock take out his phone and make a call while watching Mr. McAfee’s departure intently. He became suspicious. Instead of going directly to the condo, M.. McAfee hung out in the boat at sea for an hour or so and then went to the condo. When he arrived the security guard at the condo came immediately to the boat in an nervous fashion and told Mr. McAfee that a creole man in a golf cart had arrived about an hour earlier and demanded to talk to Mr. McAfee. When the guard said that he was not home, the man became agitated. He insisted that Mr. McAfee was really home and demanded to see for himself. It was only the intervention of the neighbor living below Mr. McAfee - Keith and Barbara Hoffman - that convinced the man to leave.
The following day Mr. McAfee received an email from the neighbors downstairs. They had awoken to find a letter under their door. This is the email:
John
There was a letter on our door this morning that I think needs your attention it’s very threatening, I know know why you have security! It’s from Swan? At the least I think you should let the police know! He wants money…Please advise what you want to do. xxx xxxx (Phone number blanked out)

M.. McAfee did not go to the police for reasons tht will become clear in my subsequent posts. He instead hired a private investigator. M.. McAfee and the investigator went and spoke with the Hoffmanss, who seemed genuinely afraid. The investigator calmed them somewhat and then immediately went to Mr. McAfee’s primary residence. He held a meeting with every employee and every guard. He took mug shots of them, copied their IDs, and then made them all copy the letter in their own handwriting:
He then compared each copied letter with the original:
M.. McAfee also submitted a sample of his own handwriting for the records. There were no matches found.
M.. McAfee immediately fired the security guard who had intently watched him leave the dock. M.. McAfee believed that the guard was in collusion with the creole man who arrived at the condo expecting Mr. McAfee to have been home. M.. McAfee’s hour wait in the boat before arrival prevented the creole man from meeting him, he believed.
This event occurred two weeks before the attempted raid on Mr. McAfee’s home that was detailed in Mr. McAfee’s post “The Raid of October 15th“. I will be reposting that report as well, and I will include supporting documentation. Mon prochain post, in a few hours, will begin the much longer series of events that began with Mr. McAfee’s introduction to a young woman named Marcia Novello. All the evidence in this first series of posts is to point ot the absurdity of everyone’s claim that Mr. McAfee is paranoid. The evidence should clearly show that anyone in similar circumstances would have behaved the same.

Reading the Belize Wiki, it seems apparent that much of the violence in Belize is bleed-over from Mexico’s drug wars. Just a few doors down, in Costa Rica, they report little gang activity. Some say this is because (in CR) they tend to legalize everything. Did John go to Belize because it’s formly a Brit colony? Maybe he should have done the speedy-spanish language course, and plopped down a few doors further south. WIki says the Brits still have a small army contingent in Belize. Wonder if that would have been useful?

I am very new to this blog.. & I know nothing about politics or government, but I am smart enough to figure out when someone is in danger. John is doing right thing, he got out of there & protective Sam too. We need to make sure these emails get written. I have for one never been out of the country but with things like this going on, I don’t want too. I know the feeling of having to watch your back & you can become paranoid to some but really its just staying 1 step ahead of your attacker/abuser. John I hope you are doing ok & I hope Sam is safe & understands why you did the things you did. I think these guys killed Mr. Faull and are definitely trying to pen on John for extortion. Keep fighting!

If Belize is so safe, then why when taking a cruise, is there armed men with machine guns keeping the locals away from the tourists? You depart at a fenced in area and are not permitted to leave by yourself unless with a tour group. That didn’t seem like a very safe place to me and we have let multiple cruse lines know it!

Oh, JM, did Swan ever call? Vous savez, on Sunday morning? That’s what makes me think that he wrote the letter, because he says he will call you to tell you when to meet him with the money. Not sure what day you got the note. Maybe by then he’d gotten relief some other way. My brain hurts.

All this evidence, and yet the wrong decision about what to do about it was made EVERY SINGLE TIME?? Je suis désolé, this all may be true but it has that same WTF factor as when Casey Anthony said she didn’t report her daughter missing because she was “doing her own investigation.” If McAfee is innocent but goes down for the crime it’s going to be because of the bizarre way all this was handled

Anyone who reads the letter from Swan can see that it was written to throw someone off. It was an illiterate who wrote it! It was someone trying to conceal his handwritting, and any handwritting specialist would see right thru this! Venez sur des personnes. Première, his ‘A’s are different in parts of the letter. He clearly tells you who he is in the start of it, and then the end. And he can spell estate, but not simple words? The letter’s slant to the left and to the right. People who write and have written have a signature, everyone knows that, a special way to write, thats why Mcaffee had everyone copy the letter. He knew what he was doing. He knows this shit, he is a smart man, he keeps telling US how smart he is! He knows they would check the slant on the letters, ect…Come on..this is getting to far fetched…even worst then some of the CIA’s shit that my con man husband was involved in, and that was some crazy shit…

The GSU is a bunch of murdering thugs. Who have nothing but bad press on them out side of nice rosy press releases written by them. The GSU are the only ones in that entire country that have a good thing to say about the GSU.

It’s always about money. These Threats aren’t to be taken likely, From day one, there should have been something done about it, get to the root of things. Time went by, and it gave time for the murderer to throw things John’s way. I seen and heard a lot things while i was growing up here in the states, and i know how easy it is, for an innocent person to be tried for something he didn’t do. Has John been Charged yet? Si ce n'est pas, Lawyers should have him out.

Alors, from what I can make of this, John had a gangster connection because he chose to live in the Belizian interior, away from the tourist zones. Because he needed to gain access to the flora that necessary for his business creating antiseptics, he must have researched the area and subsequently created strategies for living in the area unhindered. Apparently, pushing money into the local economy and buying off the local gangsters was a way to checkmate any potential violence that would be expected in such a poor rural area. Deuxièmement, he supplied police with the means to be police. What John probably didn’t expect and hadn’t drawn into his calculations was how far the corruption went up the chain of command. Alors, enter stage left the politicians and others who came in to also get a slice of pie. Of course their slice should be much bigger. Buck stopped here and John refused. Now a sense of having lost face and feeling “left out”, John gets hit with the footmen gangster of the politicians, le SSG. Police after all are the biggest gangs in the world, after armies.
How could John have known the depths of corruptive rot that has Belize in a death grip.
Alors, follow the dots and now you have this.
John’s flaw was not having enough information to accept the fact that Belize is a rotten corpse of corruption. Anyone could have made the mistake if they weren’t historically on the inside. Why is John Mcafee being strung up by the media? Airlines, hotel chains, cruise ship lines, whatever western arm that makes money off Belize…..

It’s not just that. There was a post made a couple of weeks ago, which I’ll try to find, from someone who obviously knows how Belize works. He basically said the same thing, that John came on too strong & too forceful & ruffled too many feathers. He did things without ever asking the “elders” of the towns, if they needed or even wanted these contributions. People are old & set in their ways & he kind of rode in like the sheriff. Too much, too soon, too fast. He meant well, but here’s this Gringo seeming to take over their community & they were never approached by him to talk about it (so they say). There’s an article about their feelings concerning the new police station (that they never used) & other improvements. I think it overwhelmed them. I think this is what started the trouble & that John’s payroll was about $6,000 a week. He provided jobs, resources, improvements, but his money also attracted the gangsters & drug dealers, & the rest is history. Kind of a power struggle ensued. Scary people. I’m still not sure that the GSU wasn’t just acting on a tip. Maybe they weren’t. Je ne sais pas, but no harm came to him & he wasn’t charged. It’s all conjecture. None of us know, but there may be incriminating evidence still to come. I really hope so for his sake.

What you said makes sense too and adds to the fleshing out of events. Perhaps he went in and followed a business model that intellectually worked, but wasn’t suited to the alien environment. You are right it is conjecture, only time will tell. I will state that his story doesn’t sound paranoid, it sounds credible based on what we know now.
It’s like creep that ultimately covered him head to toe.

People need to copy all the info being released incase anything happens to John (or Harold). As someone mentioned earlier this whole thing is a shakedown of catastrophic proportion. The United States needs to step the **** up and get John on safe ground.

Bonjour John. I wish you good luck if in fact you have been a target. But I must say that some of the stories are confusing. I think you’ve been setting yourself up for this.
I have been traveling the world, Central America as well, for five years now. Going from broke to having a little money,
while dreaming about freedom, being able to persue my creative passions somewhere in a place like Belize (just example). All this can be done on one thousand dollars a month, even less. I had quite a good life in Mexico and Guate, 7 months on 3k. You have way more resources to do that than needed.
Why do you get involved in politics, busting governments, why waste time on elaborate pranks, particulièrement
about drugs and shit??? That’s all a game, and you like sitting on a deck fishing, droite? Maybe too used to having a sheltered life…
Cold shower is not the worst thing in life, sometimes it’s a blessing. Hope you will get a chance to wake up and walk a clear straight line,

It most certainly is, but the Belizean government nor the police department will give up any information. With all of the people willing to lie for money or protection or for personal gain, I don’t know how they’ll ever get the truth. John certainly could have done it, but who’s lying & who isn’t? Those closest to him have scattered for the most part. Anyone could be turned. None of us are close enough to the situation to know (maybe someone reading the blog is). What scares me is that the questions for John & the answers he gives, may not jibe with any testimony already given by “witnesses”, so it could result in a warrant being issued for his arrest. Je ne sais pas. I just hope he lays low for now. Enough has been said.

I agree with John’s take on booze and drugs. Bad, mauvais, mauvais. BTDT. Mais – the anti-drug laws of these countries are never good for anything but creating a horrific crime problem. If somebody wants to ruin their mind – they will find a means to do it anyway they can. Drugs were legal up to the point of the roaring twenties, but barely mentioned in history books. What a sneaky way to build a police state planet!

His knowledge of chemical drug information, apparent from his own mouth, belies the explanation of non drug use.
The local rel estate agent that found John sleeping on his condo balcony one morning, again running in fear at an odd scenario, reported finding him in a pool of his own piss & leaving a bag of a greyish powder substance behind. Which he claims to have flushed right away.
There are some details in the story that would be hard for JM to explain away, given a true & hones process . one might think.
There is strong indication of pharmacological exploration.
It could explain some downright tweaky behaviour!.

Reading these descriptions of what transpired, it appears as though many people wanted John dead. Death threats were coming from everywhere. Who could he trust? I would’ve run too. It was the only way that he could insure that he had a chance to live.

Things started happening fast & furious after the raid in Orange Walk, but it has been building for quite awhile. Don’t get me wrong. I feel that John came on way too strong, thinking he could fix everyone by building a police force & a station, confronting the gang leaders, trying to turn things around & change people, more or less attempting to put right a system that has been years in the making. Please don’t take this the wrong way, John. But you are very manic & like to be the teacher, the Svengali, & that works in countries like the US, but in places like Belize, it is insane. It threatens the hierarchy on so many levels & brought intense danger down on you. And in your attempt to tell your story, you did it rashly, by contacting reporter after reporter asking them to focus on the corruption, not on you. There lies the problem. You are bigger than life & relish being the center of attention (not an insult, just the way it is), so with your strong personality, propensity for pranks, & offbeat sense of humor, the corruption always took a back seat, especially with the bluelight.ru prank, the Russian roulette, etc, the bevy of young girls. Of course everyone will see the story as about you. They can’t see the forest for the big oak tree! It’s been happening all along & I am hopeful that your attorneys have advised you to lay low & let the corruption take center stage. Not your many girlfriends, not Samantha, not all of the intricate details, but the actual corruption that lies at the center of everything. Give the Guatemalan government a chance to see you & the corruption without all of the drama & histrionics. Otherwise they will be done with you. If you want to be taken seriously, let the evidence speak for now.

Now I think that it was Swan, himself, who was waiting at the condo. He was hiding out & wanted for the murder of the 2 teens & needed money to get out of Belize. John is so lucky that he noticed the guard watching him & making the phone call. If he’d shown up on time, he most likely would have killed him. Who are the corrupt policemen that Swan paid to get out of the murders? Who is Corporal Hernandez who mysteriously remembered nothing about a report being filed about Swan’s death threats against the 2 boys? Bien sûr, both teens were Crips & they were killed over dealing drugs. The corruption is so deep & intertwined, involving drugs, gangs, low pay, corruption, death threats, & everything in between. How can you pick just one or two people? The whole system is screwed. Enfer, I can see Swan killing Mr. Faull. Just to have McAfee in prison so he could plunder his estate free of any interruption, since his first plan to kill John didn’t work. That place scares the hell out of me. I just wish John had stayed low key & never allowed any of these violent criminals into his world, especially working for him. And some of the girls were also involved with these gangsters. I know he wishes he’d done things differently. Please do not go back to Belize, ever.

John has a good sixth sense as he knew in his gut that something fishy was up when he noticed the guard call wen he left in the boat. This sense has kept him alive so far but there are only two options for him as far as i can see a. cut of the snakes head and bring down the whole currupt system or b. get an invisible suit and hide for the rest of his life…

Do we know who the guard was that appeared to be in the wrong place when John was leaving to go to his condo? Was it Tony? I think the guard probably called Swan to let him know John was on his way. This was definately a inside job.

Swan said he had his men watching John at the condo & he wanted the money. He definitely left the note (he had to leave or risk being seen) & whoever John saw at the condo that night, who stared at him for 8 heures, Swan had everything to do with it & whoever “ils” sont,as in “they will still get you”. John knows who “ils” sont, but why did they want him dead? He’s dead, no money. Droite? I’m still having trouble with the staring for 8 heures. I can believe there were maybe a few of Swan’s men outside at Captain Morgan’s, mais 30-40 staring for 8 heures? Nah, can’t go for that. Not yet anyway. Alors, if he gave them the money & $150,000 to Swan, they’d all go away? I want to see or hear the evidence of John being extorted for the $2 million de dollars. If Landy Burns & Tony Rhaburn are behind all of this & sent Swan & McCoy to kill John, then demand they both be brought before an international court. So they planned to kill & rob him (Swan), Amy One in Orange Walk… Who hired the gangsters to kill him? Too many possibilities & combinations. I’m outta here.

That is the $50,000,000 question. I think he loves living on the edge & thrives on drama, adrenaline, & excitation. Things just seem to have gone way downhill for him there, starting with Amy One & hiring the gangsters. I think he wanted to know the real Belizeans, those on the fringe & to live on the fringe with them. And he was probably bored. His researcher had left, his girlfriend, Jenn walked out (bien, she caught Amy living with John in Orange Walk). Something changed for him in Orange Walk & I don’t think for the better.

The last link is very telling, because a notice of the death threats by Eric Swan against Espat & Alamilla that was sent to the Prosecutor’s Office disappeared. So Swan had no problem putting his threats on paper & this is when he threatened to kill John if he did not give him the money to leave the country. Bien sûr, this was before Swan was acquitted. How did he buy his way out? He had to have gotten the money somewhere. Now that’s corruption. I think Amy Two & Amber Two were helping to set John up for Swan. What scary people. Now I understand why John was moving from place to place else & scared for his life. Swan had threatened to kill him & he probably had friends in the police force, so John didn’t know who was coming after him at this point. I would have been out of there so fast. This letter shows that Swan threatened to kill John & I can’t see how John can ever live safely in Belize again.

My Belize people have settled for so little, they just take whatever is done or given to them. Please wake up demand more from your government. Beautiful statement. How sad that these people only wanted justice for their son & trusted this police officer to do the right thing. The innocent need protection & the police officers need good training & livable wages. With only 2 parties & the incredible division between the 2 & the mad scramble for power, argent, & control, nothing can happen. Everyone’s buying everyone.

Please understand that I am a paralegal & while not yet an attorney, I am trying to see what evidence will & will not be allowed in court & what John has said that may hurt him. I have now read everything available & have just decided to start to post my thoughts. I hope you will allow me. This letter was originally posted on November 22, and it refers to Eric Swan, a gangster arrested for the murder of “expats” as he says in this note. Here is a link:

John had dealings with him & I do believe that he wrote this letter from jail & had one of his gangster members deliver it to John. Was the guard that John fired affiliated with Eric Swan? The man who was frantically looking for John was told by the guard that he could be found at his condo. When the man couldn’t find him, he left the letter for him, although under the wrong door. Swan was in deep trouble & he was trying to threaten John into giving him the money, so he could bribe his way out, or make bail, & then leave the country, as many criminals in Belize do & return when the heat is off of them. John, wanting to make himself safe in Orange Walk, approached one of the biggest gangsters there & told him that he had put $500,000 in an account in Italy, with instructions that if anything happened to him (décès), that the money would be used to kill this particular gangster. The gangster worried that if something happened to John, that he’d be blamed for it & dit, “I guess I work for you now”. Was this Swan? Indépendamment, it didn’t keep other gang members from trying to extort money from John or to harm him. And Swan had the “armes & the soldiers” (John’s words) to come after him. John has said that he discovered the plot that included Amy Two, Eric Swan’s brother James (another gangster that has since been murdered), Amber Two (Je pense que), & that they planned to kill him strictly for robbery, expecting to find millions.
This is the kind of stuff that any judge or prosecutor will bring up, if any of this evidence is brought up in court. John’s attempt to “keep your friends close & your enemies closer” will hurt him tremendously, because he associated with these guys who were accused, violent murderers & hired them for protection & they turned on him. This is the problem. You can’t separate the gangsters with their crimes & threats to kill him, from the local politicians in Orange Walk. John in his attempt to show the corruption, has put a huge amount of evidence on paper, with reporters, & on this blog, showing that he surrounded himself with people who were dangerous & who threatened to kill him, meaning the gangsters. The prosecutors will have a field day, because no one can clearly define from whom & from where, the threats & raids were coming. He said he saw men in black land on the dock next to his one night. Gangsters or police? There has got to be video proof or something, somewhere that shows a clandestine raid by a member of one of the police forces, or verifiable proof on paper of an official ordering a raid to kill him. Si ce n'est pas, it cannot be entered as evidence & if it is, they have so much damning evidence in John’s own words that will leave a huge amount of doubt & will make him look very bad. I’m only trying to help him to see that he’s got to have undeniable proof that the government was behind any of this, and not just the gangsters who turned on him. When you say that John did not contact the police about the note, when the neighbors urged him to, it will make no sense, because 3 days before the murder, he was at a ceremony donating a load of handcuffs, stun guns, & other materials to the police department. And they will bring this up. Why would he donate dangerous stun guns to a police force that he doesn’t trust. C'est tout. Now let’s come up with evidence that cannot be disputed or discounted in court that proves John was being threatened by the police. That is what we need to help him. Sorry for the long post.

Très intéressant…I noticed something after reading your post…M.. M( who is writing for John now) Mentioned at the end of his posting that James Swan was killed a month prior to the letter being left with John’s neighbors aprox- 2 mos ago. But in the article, you copy/paste to your post, it states that James was killed in 2009. Something isn’t setting right here. Eric Swan has been locked up since 2009, and James Swan has been dead since 2009. So how are Eric and James Swan even relevant in this scheme. James has been dead for 3 yrs not 3 mos like Mr. M claims. Aussi, why would someone give their name in an extortion letter, making threats, especially while they are currently incarcerated. I don’t see the relevance. It seems made up. Oh ok, “the guy isn’t here who we are going to try to extort money out of, so let’s leave him a letter”…..Donnez-moi une pause.

Oups, I didn’t have my glasses on when I was reading the article and I misread the name..It was Jason Swan not James Swan that was killed in 2009. Well poop I though I was onto something. I guess I will put my homemade detective kit away, because I have clearly failed. My apologys….

John,
I mentioned before, your evidence lies in tracing the stolen phone of the deceased. The telecom records will pin point the house next door and this can be reconciled to the new location. BANG! proves the phone went to different coordinates and the guy who pulled the triggerr. I would hire an external forensic team to do the work.

I just hope they didn’t find it in John’s house. Maybe they did ping it & that’s why they went back & searched his house. BTW, Rogue Trader, just how is John supposed to get his hands on the murder victim’s phone??? Juste curieux!!

I think the writing is on the wall. Guatemala will deport John to Belize and Belize will cancel his permanent residency status and deport him to the USA. He is a hot potato and an embarassment to Belize. They can use the charges of bribing an ex-cop and court clerk, the weapons charrges, the dope found in the donated police equipment and his non-co-operation with a homicide investigation as more than ample grounds for deportation.

If the Belize where to deport him, it wouldn’t be that big of a deal. I think the government wants McAfee’s money most of all. Its hard to say but i think McAfee was trying to escape to America on his own.

Thank you for the continung info. I understand now why you wish to start again at the beginning, If the skeptics do not believe why John needed protection, please read this article in the Belize Times. It will become more clear and you will wonder why everyone in belize does not arm themselves.

I’ve got to hand it to John – he doesn’t let being a multimillionaire get in the way of having an exciting life. If I had his money I’d be living the good life on a resort in Hawaii, not dealing with illiterate muds trying to whack me every third Tuesday.

As the story unfolds it’s become clear that John was definatly keen to what was going on around him, things that probably would have made anyone uneasy. John I hope your ok. We all pulling for your release and hope to hear from you soon.
