One challenge with building a device like this is that it is illegal to export outside the United States without approval from the government. There is a solution, however: publish the code in printed form, ship it overseas, and then allow that code to be scanned back into a computer. That’s how people got around the problem with PGP years ago. I assume that is still one legal avenue, but … the government is hell bent on controlling information, that’s for sure.
